Tip #50 - Copyright Copycat Firstly, remember to put a copyright notice on every page of your website, along with the year (I’m reliably informed it means nothing without the year). A simple “Copyright 2007 XYZ Company” should suffice. That said, there will always be people out there that can’t be bothered to write their own content and want to steal someone else’s. They don’t understand the concept of plagiarism, and they’re the bane of many people’s lives – especially if you write articles, as I do. There is a quick and easy way of catching the copyright thieves out though – simply paste your URL(s) into www.copyscape.com and it will search the Internet for similar pages – alerting you to any it finds. Once you have your list you can check them and find out if you’re correctly attributed or not. You should make a plan to do this every couple of months, especially if you write lots of original content – it also helps you to find places that you content has been placed legitimately so that you can send thank you messages!
